Saif Ali Khan: Amrita Singh's Contribution Was 'Invaluable'!

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan recently offered a rare and candid reflection on his first marriage to actress Amrita Singh, admitting that the eventual separation was a 'pity.' Speaking openly about their relationship dynamics post-divorce, the actor revealed that despite the painful end, he and his ex-wife now share an unusually close and amicable bond, maintained primarily through their shared commitment to their children, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan.

 

"A Pity Things Didn't Work Out"

 

During a candid appearance on the talk show Too Much with Kajol And Twinkle, Saif Ali Khan looked back at his marriage to Amrita Singh, which began in 1991 when he was just 21.

 

Acknowledging the age at which he married, Saif stated, “I’ve spoken about it a lot, and obviously, 21 is a young age, and things change. We know that things didn’t work out.”

 

However, the actor went on to pay a heartfelt tribute to Amrita Singh's foundational role in his life and career, particularly during his early years in the film industry. "Apart from having two wonderful, wonderful children, I don't think I've said before how important Amrita was in my life... Her contribution and help at that time were quite invaluable. It’s a pity things didn’t work out."

 

The Unusual Co-Parenting 'Contact'

 

While the marriage ended in divorce in 2004, the two remain connected as co-parents to their now-adult children, Sara and Ibrahim. Saif candidly explained the nature of their current relationship, revealing a surprisingly regular, albeit specific, line of communication.

 

He explained to the hosts:

 

"But I'm very lucky; I think my ex-wife and I get along well enough. We usually speak about important things, and usually when I'm in a hospital bed... Which is actually quite often. So yeah, it's a regular kind of contact."

 

This revelation, delivered with Saif's characteristic dry wit, highlighted the maturity and peace the former couple has achieved after a highly publicised and initially acrimonious separation. It shows a functional co-parenting relationship focused on essential matters, a model that has allowed their children to maintain a close bond with both parents.

Beyond co-parenting, Saif emphasised that Amrita’s influence on his personal and professional growth during their 13 years of marriage (1991-2004) was "invaluable." Today, both Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh are proud of their children, with Sara Ali Khan carving out a successful career in Bollywood and Ibrahim Ali Khan set to make his own debut.
