Tarun Mansukhani's Comeback: The Cost of an 'Expensive Divorce'!
NEWS RATING
After a significant gap of almost 17 years since his directorial debut 'Dostana' (2008), filmmaker Tarun Mansukhani is back in the spotlight with the grand success of 'Housefull 5'. However, the director has now candidly opened up about the personal struggles that kept him away from the industry for over a decade, revealing that an "expensive and unpleasant divorce" from his wife Karuna was a major factor.

Mansukhani, whose latest directorial 'Housefull 5' starring Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, and Abhishek Bachchan, has crossed the ₹200 crore mark globally, shared his ordeal in a recent interview.

The Hidden Costs of Personal Turmoil

Speaking to 'Just Too Filmy', Mansukhani explained that despite the immense success of 'Dostana' and the myriad of opportunities it brought his way, he found himself unable to take on new projects due to the turmoil in his personal life. "A lot happened in life. I went through a divorce. It wasn't a pleasant one. It was an expensive one for me, and life just took its own turns," he stated.

Tarun Mansukhani and Karuna, who were childhood sweethearts, ended their nine-year marriage in 2014. Reports suggest their relationship began to face difficulties as early as 2011, leading to them living separately from 2012. Despite efforts from friends and family to reconcile, their differences proved irreconcilable, culminating in a mutual consent divorce.

Debt and the Creative Block

The 'Housefull 5' director further revealed that the divorce plunged him into debt, creating a mental block that prevented him from pursuing filmmaking. "I was not in a bandwidth or headspace to make a film. What I knew about that point in time is that I am in debt, and I don't need to sort that out. I didn't want to make a film, I'll make money or get paid for it. The moment I do that, it is tainted by that because I am making a film in fear. I am not going to be fun on that set either," he confessed.

This candid admission sheds light on the often-unseen personal battles faced by public figures. Mansukhani chose to step away from the limelight and work towards clearing his financial obligations, ensuring that his return to filmmaking would be driven purely by creative passion and not by necessity. He quietly took on various other jobs during his hiatus to resolve his financial situation.

The Comeback with 'Drive' and 'Housefull 5'

Mansukhani eventually made a comeback in 2019 with 'Drive', a Dharma Productions film starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Jacqueline Fernandez. While 'Drive' received mixed reviews, it marked his return to the director's chair. Now, with 'Housefull 5' dominating the box office, Mansukhani's resilience and commitment to his craft are evident.

His journey serves as a powerful reminder that behind the glitz and glamour of Bollywood, individuals often navigate significant personal challenges that impact their professional lives. Tarun Mansukhani's transparency about his "expensive divorce" and its profound effect on his career is a testament to his perseverance and a valuable insight into the human side of the film industry.
