Director Suneel Darshan recalls Akshay Kumar getting teary-eyed when a producer insulted him!

Throughout his three-decade career, Akshay Kumar, also known as Khiladi Kumar, has played iconic roles in Bollywood, helping him attain incredible success. Filmmaker Suneel Darshan recently disclosed in an interview that following a run of box office failures, a producer insulted the actor by refusing to display his image on a billboard and calling him unworthy. In addition, Akshay proposed that Hrithik Roshan be included in the producer's next 100 movies when the latter was thinking about starring him in one.

 

Filmmaker Suneel Darshan, who has worked with Akshay Kumar on movies like Andaaz and Ek Rishtaa, revealed in a recent interview with Friday Talkies that he took a chance on casting Akshay in the movie Jaanwar when the actor was going through a difficult time in his career and big movies like Dhadkan and Hera Pheri weren't coming out.

Suneel related a particular incident in which a different movie starring the Welcome actor was supposed to come out a few days prior to the debut of their movie. He talked about how the producer handled Kumar badly and said that he wasn't worth a billboard, without mentioning the movie.

 

Giving further information, the director stated, "Akshay Kumar came to meet me at my office. During those days, he would come every day to meet me. He was crying. He shared, 'I just met with the producer of my film and asked him why he didn't put any banners, and he said, tumhari aukaat nahi hai ki billboard lagaya jaye.' That day was the first time I felt nervous. But, I controlled my emotions and thought of doing something."

 

The producer of Andaaz chose to support Kumar rather than abandon him after listening to him. They decided to use the biggest billboard in Juhu to exclusively showcase Akshay Kumar. The movie's starring heroines, Shilpa Shetty and Karisma Kapoor, who had scored hits at the time, were not even featured on the poster. Despite having a poor opening weekend in Mumbai, the movie went on to become a tremendous hit in other regions of the nation.

 

But Akshay decided to stop by Suneel's office after learning that he had gone to meet with Hrithik Roshan for a project. Suneel Darshan recalled the event and shared, "He said, 'I heard you are making a film with Hrithik Roshan'. I was like, 'Where did you hear that?' He said, 'I heard you met Rakesh Roshan in his office the other day'. I said, 'I did meet him because he called me to show some songs of his son.' He was like, 'oh, okay'. Then he held my hand and asked me to promise him that I will make 100 films with him."

 

Regarding his career, Akshay is enduring another difficult phase. His previous twelve movies haven't done well at the box office. The actor is still putting a lot of effort on his next movies, which include Shankara, Sky Force, Jolly LLB 3, and Housefull 5.
