Chhaya Kadam responds to Laapataa Ladies becoming India's official Oscars entry!

The Laapataa Ladies crew is now celebrating their film's selection as India's official entry to the Oscars. Chhaya Kadam, who plays Manju Mai in Kiran Rao's film, also shared her satisfaction. However, her other film, All We Imagine As Light, was not accepted as an official entry, and the actress expressed regret. She stated that she would have liked to see both of her films at the Oscars.

 

In a media interview, Laapataa Ladies' Chhaya Kadam expressed her joy and pleasure about the film's selection as India's official entry at the 97th Academy Awards. She described it as a'moment of pride.'

Chhaya also appeared in the film All We Imagine As Light, which received the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival 2024. In May, filmmaker Payal Kapadia and her actors traveled to France to accept the festival's second-highest accolade.

 

Reacting to All We Imagine As Light not being India’s official entry to Oscars 2025, Chhaya revealed, “I am happy for Laapataa Ladies, but at the same time I am feeling a little bad for Payal’s film as well. Now, this decision has been taken by the biggies at Film Federation, so I have no say in it. I would have loved to see both films at the Oscars.”

 

Laapataa Ladies is a comedy drama directed by Kiran Rao and starring Aamir Khan. The cast features Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan. The film opened in theaters on March 1, 2024. It was screened at the famous Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2023 and garnered a standing ovation.
